Salary:  $21.63/hourly

Working hours:  Mon.-Fri. 8 am-5 pm

Residency requirement:  Yes

Level of Education: A Bachelors’ degree preferred. Years of experience can substitute for the degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Florida Driver’s License required. 

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training and background required, with the ability to develop GIS layers and GIS analysis for commission-managed lands, Florida Forever projects, and potential land acquisitions. 

  • ESRI certification preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with My Florida Marketplace preferred but not required.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and stakeholders.

  • Ability to travel occasionally throughout the State to assist acquisition agent and planners with the execution of assigned meetings and site visits.

  • Ability to coordinate and develop acquisition related documents, and ability to be highly organized and multitask numerous projects to execute program responsibilities.  

 

Position description and duties: 

The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation is comprised of six Sections and two offices

The Land Conservation and Planning (LCP) program of the Wildlife and Habitat Management Section of the Division of Habitat and Species Conservation of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering an exciting opportunity to work with nature and real estate in a challenging career. The LCP program works across the state on land acquisition and land management planning programs. This position is an important part of this team and will oversee matters affecting six million acres within the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) system.

The LCP program has responsibilities that include assistance with the Acquisition and Restoration Council (ARC), FWC’s Land Management Planning Program, FWC Florida Forever Additions and Inholdings Land Acquisition Program, intra-agency coordination, inter-agency coordination, stakeholder coordination, and public meetings. Other work duties include projects requiring GIS analysis, review of new legislation and easements, review of real estate due diligence items, and any other special projects relating to conservation acquisition, planning, and land management. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the following:

Duties:

Assists with the development of acquisition project proposals, prospectuses, and other related documents. Performs a wide range of GIS tasks including maintaining acquisition geodatabases and performing various GIS and Microsoft Excel analyses for Florida Forever projects, acquisition proposals, FWC-managed areas and other acquisition related projects. 

Maintains spreadsheets, logs, files, databases, and other various related office filing items to maintain and/or improve program duties and functionality. Assists with filing and organizing property and lease inventory and maintains tracking spreadsheets.

Monitors operation activities to assure compliance with statewide operational goals.  Investigates, assesses, analyzes, and makes recommendations to resolve issues. Provides daily consultation and assistance to management and staff in the management and operation of service programs and responsibilities. Consults with program supervisors and administrative staff to resolve programmatic, administrative, and operational issues.  Performs firsthand analysis of operational challenges of acquisition and planning programs; serves on interdisciplinary staff teams to develop optimum resolutions; carries out the implementation of solutions.

Performs inter- and intra-agency communication to coordinate meetings, . Constructs various public communication documents regarding FWC-managed areas and acquisition projects. Responsible for attending meetings including meetings to assist in the accomplishment of land acquisition projects, as well as management plan development, as needed.

As needed, travels to assist planners and acquisition agent with meetings and site visits. Assists with travel arrangements and reimbursements for program staff.

Performs all office related purchasing, including assisting with land acquisition purchasing paperwork, journal transfer requests, documentation, etc.

Performs similar or other work as required and assigned, as well as completing recommended or required training to enhance and maintain professional development and skills.
