Originally from Winter Park, Florida, Alan Alshouse spent 6 years in the Army as a veterinary animal specialist managing military veterinary hospitals and working with wildlife diseases on military reservations. After the Army, Alan graduated from the School of Forest Resources and Conservation as a Wildlife Ecologist in 1989. He began his involvement with The Wildlife Society in the University of Florida Student Chapter. Alan’s first wildlife job was as a wildlife ecologist at Deseret Ranch of Florida, where managed hunting and fishing programs for the 300,000 acre ranch and participated in the initial research for the private lands alligator program in cooperation with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. This was followed by 11 years as Land Management Coordinator for the St. Johns River Water Management District managing natural resources and public recreation for approximately 800,000 acres. He now works as a senior scientist for PBS&J (soon to be Atkins), an environmental and engineering consulting firm. Alan remains active in the National and Florida chapters of The Wildlife Society.
